Upright and Breathing, Everything Else is a Bonus.

Put another way, any day where you're still looking down at the grass is a good day.  We use saying like that from time to time to say that whatever else might be going wrong around us life is o.k. as long as we are still participating in it.  But, do we really mean that, do we really live life that way.  What's our tolerance for things going wrong before we become overwhelmed and feel more like saying "Life Sucks and Then You Die".

I can't speak for other religions but for Christians what if we actually believed in the words of the Gospels...  I'm not saying that we dispute any of them, but do we fully live them?  Do we really give thanks to God for all that we have for all that is?  Do we celebrate Christ's Love for us each and every day?  Or, do we hit our first obstacle of the day and latch on to some anger or bitterness about it and pour great energy into berating a person or complaining about the situation.

Studies have been done that have shown that many people actually don't feel satisfied or content unless they have something to complain about. I think we have all felt that way at one time or another but who wants to love that way.  We have so much in our lives to be grateful for, we live in a time where we have so many conveiniences at our disposal that it's hard to be realistic about it and still feel down.

That's not to say that situations won't come along and make us feel down but we learn to move past them, overcome them, or lean on our friends to help us do so.  As long as we are still taking in nourishment and have enough of our senses intact to experience the world around us then we are blessed.  If we have more than that then we should celebrate the abundance of the blessings we have received.

Take the time after you read this to take inventory of all that is good in your life, all that brings you joy, all that excites you, all who love you, and... realize that if none of that where there and all you had was your life and God's presence you would still be blessed and loved.

So, now comes the hard part.  I need to live up to the words of my favorite saying.  Yes, I am Upright and Breathing, and Everything Else is Truly a Bonus, actually more than that a Blessing!!!
